A reorganization process puts Mekanord a/s back in business with a sustainable economy ready to face future challenges as well as market demands.
During the last year, the financial crisis has thrown thousands of businesses worldwide into an economical deadlock. One of the businesses that was hit hard by the financial instability of the global markets was the marine gearbox manufacturer Mekanord. Mekanord has, however, just recently gone through a wide-ranging reorganization process securing the future existence of the company.
Ready for future challenges
In connection with the reorganization, Mekanord has been recapitalized leaving the company well-equipped for future challenges with a strong and sustainable economy. The new business constellation is durable and the solution enables Mekanord to regain foothold in the market. Currently, the company is strengthening the organization specifically within research and development as well as sales.
Gearbox specialist
Mekanord specializes in the design and manufacture of marine gearboxes for a variety of vessels as for example fishing vessels, coasters, tugs, ferries and rescue boats. Also propellers and remote control systems are supplied on various projects. The company also offers maintenance checks and complete overhauls on both marine and wind turbine gearboxes and a professional service team ensuring fast and reliable response to inquiries as well as prompt delivery of spare parts. For more than three decades, Mekanord has delivered high quality equipment for the maritime sector and has through the years build the experience, the knowhow and the technical insight needed to meet the future demands of the market.
New gearbox on the market
Mekanord will also in the future focus on its core competences, the development, design and manufacture of marine gearboxes. Just recently, Mekanord has developed a new gearbox, themekanord type80. The type80 is the largest gearbox ever build by Mekanord and it is – as its smaller siblings, the mekanord type60 and type 70 – a pure reduction gear box. It weighs approximately 14,000 kg and has a maximum power input of approximately 7,500 kW depending on i.e. the reduction ratio, the engine speed and the class specification. The new gearbox particularly stands out because it is prepared for OD box with hollow bored output shaft for CPP propeller with build in servo system in the propeller hub. The firstmekanord type80 has recently been delivered for Rolls Royce and is currently being installed in a cargo vessel at the Ustaoglu Shipyard in Turkey.
