29-03-2010: Ship of the month March 2010 - Bastø 1
The ship of the month, M/F Bastø 1, is in dock at Orskov Yard A/S in Frederikshavn. At Orskov, the vessel will have a service check and undergo general maintenance getting ready for a busy Easter on the Oslo Fjord. Engine and gears, safety equipment and access ramps will be given a complete overhaul and the exterior will be freshened up with new paint. During this years’ harsh winter, the vessel has been stuck in the ice several times damaging structures and components below the waterline and necessitating a renovation of among others the propellers. Ship traffic and STS operations are on the increase off the east coast of Northern Jutland. As a consequence, the two Danish environmental vessels” Mette Miljø” and ”Gunnar Thorson” are now permanently stationed at the naval base in Frederikshavn.
